 (COVID-19) Coronavirus Update :
We have agreed to cautiously re-open our church for services requiring face masks to be worn when entering the building and fellowshipping.  Chairs in the sanctuary have been spaced so as to allow for social distancing when seated.  While seated, the wearing of masks are optional. The praise team and Pastor will not be wearing masks while leading the worship service. We still request no hugs or handshakes.  When the service ends, we request that you put your mask back on to exit the service and fellowship.

Please continue to practice social distancing and wear masks in public places where you cannot social distance.

MISSIONARY WEEKEND November 14-15, 2020

We are excited about the missionary coming next weekend for our Missions emphasis weekend.  He is from a creative access country so we can not share much information publicly.   All we can say is his name is Caleb.  We will have an ice cream social Saturday at 7:00 and regular service Sunday morning with going to out eat afterwards for those who want to go.  Maybe we can organize a room at Daniels.

PASTOR APPRECIATION DAY OBSERVED

Sunday, October 4, 2020, the Calvary Alliance Church of Hiawassee, Georgia celebrated Pastor Appreciation Sunday in connection with the Bless Your Pastor non-profit organization and the National Association of Evangelicals organization.  October has been designated as “Bless Your Pastor” month in all denominations across the US.  This was perfect timing for Calvary Alliance as the first Sunday in October was the 4th anniversary of Pastor Brian Schmidt’s tenure at our church.  Pictured above is Church Elder Mike McManus making the presentation to Pastor Brian and his wife Debbie.

Pastor Brian came to Calvary Alliance through the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA). He attended Piedmont Bible College, now Piedmont International University in Winston-Salem, NC and graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Religious Education.  He was first ordained in the Baptist Ministry by the Wisconsin Association of Regular Baptist Churches in 1993.  He was ordained in the C&MA ministry by the South Atlantic District in April of 2004.  Prior to his arrival at Calvary Alliance, he served as Assistant Pastor at the First Alliance Church in Lexington. NC.  Currently he serves as our Pastor and Head Elder and also works for the Towns County School system as a fulltime substitute bus driver.  His wife, Debbie, works as a teacher and principal at Mountain Area Christian Academy in Morganton, GA.

Bless Your Pastor is a national generosity movement sponsored by the National Association of Evangelicals for churches of all denominations and affiliations across America. It is an opportunity for all church congregations and Christians to discover creative ways to care for their shepherds and church staff members.

National studies show that many pastors work long hours faithfully serving their congregations. But due to limited funds in church budgets, they are often not properly compensated and face real financial struggles and hardships. Bless Your Pastor focuses on resourcing church leaders to disciple their people in generous living that leads to transformed hearts and generous spirits. The campaign will guide believers to relieve some of the financial and emotional pressures that pastors often feel as a result of their sacrificial service to their churches.

The Bible instructs believers and churches in 1 Thessalonians 5:12 to “Make sure that you show your deep appreciation for those who cherish you and diligently work as ministers among you.” And, Galatians 6:6 says, “The one who receives instruction in the Word should share all good things with their instructor.”

Calvary Alliance Church is truly blessed to have this couple serving at our church and in the community.  For more information about the Bless your Pastor movement visit www.BlessYourPastor.org

March 1, 2020 visiting Missionaries John and Betty Arnold, shared about their mission work in the country of Burkina Faso. Water is Life!

Picture

We had the joy of having John and Betty Arnold, missionaries with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) and Engage Burkina at our church.  They are home on leave from Burkina Faso a result of terrorists attacks in the African country.   John has a heart for bush evangelism, helping with the building of wells, roofing churches and pastors’ homes, and working with American work team members. Betty loves entertaining and often has a house full of people.

Burkina Faso is located in West Africa, with Mali to the north and west, Niger, Benin, and Togo is to the east, and Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire to the south. Burkina is about the size of Colorado and has a population of about 17 million.  Burkina Faso’s high population density and limited resources (it is a landlocked country) have resulted in poor economic prospects for the majority of its citizens. Burkina is consistently in the top five poorest countries in the world. Ninety percent of the population is engaged in subsistence agriculture, which is difficult due to the harsh climatic conditions.
In recent years the country has experienced an increase in violence and acts of terrorism. Burkina Faso has been recognized as the fastest growing humanitarian crisis in Africa in 2019.  Currently, over 560,000 people are displaced as a result of the terrorist attacks. This number will go as high as 900,000 this year.  In recent months, Churches of all denominations are being specifically targeted and attacked, including during hours of worship.

We are calling believers and churches everywhere to "Pray Strong" for Burkina Faso.  We believe this crisis is an opportunity for God to put His glory and power on display. We believe that prayer is the key to unlock the power of God and the miracles this country needs.   If you would like to give to this effort please click on the button below to learn more about the opportunities that exist to help this needy country.
